For months the public signup bonus offers for the Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier and Plus cards sat at 40,000 points.
The situation just changed for the better – Chase improved the signup bonus offers for both cards to 50,000 Rapid Rewards points!
You can get the elevated offer via these links (I may get a small number of points for referral):
I’ve covered the Southwest cards, the airline’s destinations and the Companion Pass extensively. That’s because the cards and the airline offer great value to savvy travelers. And the Companion Pass is probably the best airline perk around.
The timing of this offer is what really grabbed my attention, as it aligns excellently with pursuit of a Companion Pass.
You get the pass for the remainder of the year in which you earn it and the entire following year. So if you were to get one or both of these cards now you would have a good shot at earning the Companion Pass early this year, meaning you could have it for the remainder of this year and all of 2019!
More specifically, if you get both cards and meet the bonus requirements, you’ll rack up at least 104,000 points towards the Companion Pass. That’s the 50,000 point bonuses plus a minimum of 2,000 points on each card for the initial spending. You’ll only need 6,000 more points to secure the pass. You could nab those points through additional spending on a Southwest card, flying on the airline or through use of their online shopping mall, etc.

Chase has revised their offers for the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier and Plus cards. You can now get each of them with a signup bonus of 50,000 Rapid Rewards points after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months after account opening. The timing of this offer update is great for those that want a Southwest Companion Pass. If you nab a Companion Pass early in a calendar year you’ll essentially have it for nearly two full years. The best way to do just that is to get one, or both, of these cards and collect the large signup bonus.
